On 16 September 2014, the chairman of EIM’s Technical Steering Group and Director of System Engineering at Network Rail, Professor Andy Doherty FREng, was elected to the position of Fellow by the Royal Academy of Engineering, a UK based organisation which promotes engineering excellence to the benefit of society.
Within Network Rail, Andy has lead a system overview of the railway ensuring that there is technically sound integration of the various track engineering disciplines to provide the level of service the customers deserve. He is also the chair of the UK Vehicle Track System Interface Committee and a member of the cross industry Technical Strategy Leadership Group.
Outside his UK commitments, Andy has senior positions in a large number of European Associations and Committees including Vice Chair of the European Rail Research Advisory Group (ERRAC) and Chair of the Group of Representative Bodies (GRB). As such, he represents the GRB vis-à-vis the European Railway Agency (ERA).
Andy continues his role as Chair of the Technical Steering Group (TSG) which coordinates the activities of EIM’s technical working Groups and furthermore, Andy was appointed as a director in the Shift2Rail railway research program. The EIM team would like to congratulate Andy on his nomination.
