Today, the association of European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) and the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the two organisations.

The aim of this MoU is to raise the profile of both organisations vis-a-vis all the relevant EU institutions, underscore the importance of transport infrastructure and develop joint activities on intermodality, adapting to climate change, noise mapping, public procurement, health and safety, funding for infrastructure and research and innovation in rail, road and other transport infrastructure.

EIM President Paul Plummer welcomed the cooperation between EIM and CEDR, saying: “Transport policy objectives at European Union and national level increasingly stress and rely on an integrated, multimodal approach. Both organisations share the aims of exchanging information and best practices with their peers and facilitating cooperation and improved efficiency in the interest of the users of their respective infrastructure”.

CEDR Secretary-General Steve Phillips commented: “At national level, road and rail directors are already working closely together. Seamless mobility for people and goods is no empty concept, but a concrete watchword for action, as our members evolve into mobility providers. How the agencies relate to transport users, address uncertain funding streams and rise to other challenges like climate change are all obvious areas in which we can cooperate. Intermodal cooperation is mutually beneficial for all stakeholders involved, and both CEDR and EIM are looking forward to working together with the European Commission on joint projects and other activities”.

The MoU enters into effect immediately.
