Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) celebrates the 2021 European Year of Rail with EIM with a series of 5 videos about its contribution to the success of the Portuguese “Ferrovia 2020” Investment Plan, a modernisation plan of more than 1000 km of Portuguese rail lines
Today we talk about:
IP investment onDouro Line (chapter 3)
Classified as UNESCO World Heritage site, the Douro Valley is, for many, considered to be one of the most beautiful regions of Portugal. Most of the nineteenth century’s Douro line follow the margins of the river Douro, where the world famous Port Wine is being produced for centuries.
In order to improve the quality of the railway services along the route, IP is promoting a vast investment programme in the section Marco – Régua, which comprises the electrification, installation of electronic signalling and telecommunications, comprehensive railway renovation, reinforcement of tunnels and extending passenger platforms in several railway stations.
