Yesterday, the European Rail Infrastructure Managers Association (EIM) and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital integration and drive further innovation in rail systems.
This memorandum constitutes a formal step forward in the collaboration between the two organisations, enabling the exchange of information and ensuring that the needs of railway infrastructure managers are effectively integrated into the development of 6G technologies.
On behalf of EIM, Monika Heiming, Executive Director, stated: “As digitalisation and automation are key challenges for the rail sector of the future, 5G and soon 6G will be fundamental to ensuring seamless digital operations and communication on the rail network. Therefore, we are proud to strengthen our cooperation with 6G-IA for a more innovative rail infrastructure, benefiting European customers and businesses.”
On behalf of 6G-IA, Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Governing Board, declared: “I welcome this important step to improve the future collaboration with the rail sector. The success of 5G, and in the future 6G, is tightly linked with the ability to successfully use this technology in new industrial domains. With EIM as a strong partner we hope to work together to demonstrate and prove that these new communication technologies provide real advantage to both rail infrastructure operators and customers.”
