With the increase of rail traffic, during these last few years SNCF Réseau has engaged in a the digital modernisation of its rail traffic management system (MGOC). MGOC is a traffic management system that allows SNCF Réseau to detect and predict potential traffic problems and propose solutions that can reduce or avoid rail traffic disruptions.
Thanks to MGOC, the rail traffic management has changed profoundly. From the departure till the arrival station the train journey is overseen by the traffic regulator and managers, who are in constant contact with the train driver. Their work secure that trains can depart and arrive on time. However, because of the density of the network, a delays of a train due to unexpected circumstances can cause a “domino effect” of delays on many other lines of the rail network. To avoid this, thanks to MGCO the traffic regulator can rapidly assess complex traffic situation and inform the traffic managers and train drivers of the solutions that will minimise or prevent traffic perturbations. MCOG helps SNCF Réseau to propose the most adapted solutions to avoid disruptions and give the passengers the best information on real time to make their journey as pleasant as possible.
