Today, the European Parliament confirmed Mr Apostolos Tzitzikostas as the new Commissioner for Transport. The European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM) highly welcome his appointment and are looking forward to a very fruitful cooperation.
On behalf of all rail infrastructure managers, EIM’s President María Luisa Domínguez of Spanish rail infrastructure manager ADIF states: “We trust Apostolos Tzitzikostas to support European rail infrastructure managers during the next 5-year mandate of the European Commission. With expectations towards the transport and rail sector on the rise, rail infrastructure managers must evolve alike in order to meet the expectations of their customers and owners. This implies closer cooperation, coordination, resilience, dual-use, sustainability and innovation.”
EIM’s Executive Director Monika Heiming complements: “The new EU policy objectives for transport and rail are ambitious and timely. EU funding for rail infrastructure is vital to deploy TEN-T, digital technologies (incl ERTMS) and to further innovate and digitalise infrastructure assets and procedures. In this respect, EU support should seek to extend beyond a few prestigious high-speed lines, focusing also on a broader range of projects all around Europe to ensure comprehensive rail infrastructure development.”
EIM and its members are looking forward to closely cooperating with Apostolos Tzitzikostas and his team for a competitive, reliable, innovative and connected Single European Railway Area.
